PAYSON, ARIZONA - August 10, 2007.
Steffi Hillard, daughter of Belle Taopo-Hillard (XDS '78) was the star of the night in a concert held last August 10, 2007 at the Fireside Espresso in Payson, Arizona. The concert was organized by the UPXDS International Association headed by its President Raffy Discipulo for the UPXDS Scholarship Fund that would benefit economically-disadvantaged students at the University of the Philippines.
Steffi's Music
Part of Steffi's repertoire were mostly original songs like “At the Edge,” “Trust,” and “Room” to name a few. (You can hear some of her songs at http://myspace.com/stephmaemusic). The day prior to the concert, Steffi got really sick. Her mother was so worried that Steffi would not be able to perform. The organizers thought of canceling the show. But later in the afternoon, she started showing progress. She wasn’t as pale as few hours earlier. By 4 PM, she started rehearsing. The show would go on as scheduled after all. The concern started on time. Steffi even had a duet with her sister Lexie. Silent Auction Right before the show, the president gave a brief speech. He talked about the Association and its objectives. He also noted that there were items for silent auction. The XDS members, who drove all the way from Virginia and California to support the activity, had to walk around the stage and showed each items off to the audience. The items were handcarried by Tony Chua (XDS 78) from his recent balikbayan trip to the Philippines All the items were auctioned off.
It was a very succesful fundaraising activity for the UPXDS International Association. (You can see the other pictures and the related blog article of Belle Hillard at http://www.simplybelle.net/the-concert/ ) |
