Dinner Concert for a Cause As our flagship project, the Association is providing UP scholarship to academically gifted but financially challenged high school graduates from different parts of the country. At present, it has six (6) scholars in UP Diliman and hopes to add two more grantees every school year.
To ensure the sustainability of our scholarship project, we are holding a Dinner Concert on December 4, 2010 at UP Bahay Alumni which is also the highlight of our 4th anniversary celebration. 1,000 copies of souvenir program would be printed for that affair. In this regard, we are inviting you to get a space in our souvenir program for the advertisement of your company or office. The rates are as follows:
Full page - P15,000 Quarter page - P5,000 Half page - P8,000 Line ads - P500/line XDS Books Over the years, mentors and non-XDS UPians have been urging the UPXDS Association to write a book that if possible should come out during the UP Centennial celebration. All of them convinced that the XDS “period” from 1977 to 1981 was a landmark in the history of the University- when it accepted about 450 students coming from poor families into an experimental scholarship program that now turns out to be a great success because, as one professor said, “the poor XDS students delivered the goods.” Such a book has now become a definite goal of the XDS Association which hopes to make it a permanent record for the UP community and for others who need proof of the power of faith, persistence and education to change lives.
XDS Exhibit A short letter informing the recipient that he had been accepted into a scholarship program by the University of the Philippines in Diliman, books specially produced by UP’s most respected professors for the program, dozens of photos and other assorted memorabilia will go on display in an XDS booth when UP Diliman officially starts the celebration of its Centennial Year. On hand to guide viewers will be former XDSD scholars who will come back to their Alma Mater for the Centennial events.
XDS Tree of Life In a bid to boost its scholarship fun, the XDS Association has come up with the XDS Tree of Life, which it will raise beginning October 6 when it celebrates its first anniversary. The “tree” will have roots, branches and leaves on which will be written the names of a sponsor and the amount of his donation. Donors will not only have an opportunity to help send poor students to UP Diliman, but will be able to meet XDS members.
XDS Awards You may want to consider or invitation to nominate your peers (batch mates) for the first ever search for the Ten Outstanding UPXDS Alumni in 2008. The search aims to give recognition to alumni who have distinguished themselves in their chosen profession or by rendering exemplary service to the nation. The awards is anchored on the following: scholastic achievements, professional accomplishments, proven leadership in the community and contribution to the reputation and the stature of the organization.
